For more than 25-years I have worked as a professional writer — journalist/corporate writer, PR executive and social media strategist (since social media didn’t exist 25 years ago, the later, 7+ years) for an eclectic client base including financial, military, educational, retail, medical/health, sports and non-profit industries.
I believe in stories, finding them and writing about them — whether through journalism, PR or social media.
If it requires the written word, I’ve done it.
I am a wordsmith and a grammar snob.
As a FREELANCE JOURNALIST, I find a story, develop a sexy angle, pitch it to an editor, land the story and write it.
As a PUBLIC RELATIONS EXECUTIVE, I strategize and manage communications campaigns including full-fledged PR campaigns and media tours. I also work a la carte to help corporate and small business clients create, write and post to the wire services press releases and create angles for targeted media pitch campaigns. I believe the cornerstone of any strategic campaign is a “story” filled with well-defined messaging and a compelling angle that speaks to the client’s target market(s) and goal(s).
As a CORPORATE WRITER, I pen SEO heavy and marketing-specific website copy (for 15+ websites), blog posts, collateral, newsletters, verbal brand, etc. capturing the tone of the client/business and writing for the intended target market.
As a STRATEGIC SOCIAL MEDIA CONSULTANT, I view social media as “extreme short-form journalism.” SM should be viewed as a journalistic opportunity wrapped up in an opportunity for self-PR (promotion). I view and approach SM as the “headline news operations” for my corporate clients.
Based in the Washington, D.C. area, I am former television and radio reporter turned 21st Century Journalist and Media Strategist specializing in Social Media Journalism, Pitch and Press Release Angle Development and Strategic Communications Consulting. As a journalist, I write on an eclectic array of subjects for a variety of publications including the Huffington Post, Washington Post Magazine & Newspaper, ozy.com, Sierra Magazine, Bethesda Magazine, Roadtrippers, Home & Design and more. I was also a contributing essayist in the anthology, Knowing Pains: Women on Love, Sex and Work in their 40s. My contribution to the book is an essay entitled, “Finding Friendship at Forty,” which landed me an interview on the Today Show. As a media strategist, I create social media campaigns and PR strategies from a journalistic POV.
